Uni, what uni?

As many of you already know I want to be a fashion designer (super realistic dream). This year i applied for fashion design at four art schools (3 of which have already declined me and one of which will hopefully not do so within the next week). This came as more of a disappointment to my friends and family rather than me, purely because I was half expecting it as it is a highly competitive course and also is quite subjective, since it is art. The thing is though Art School is 4 years of my life where I will learn a huge amount about myself, personally and as an artist, as well as technique. However, the other thing is, technique can easily be self taught and through life and other experiences I will learn about myself and through travel and reading I can develop myself as an artist. In effect Art School is absolutely not necessary to make it as a designer. For example look at Alexander McQueen, that was internship and eagerness to learn. Yes he later done a Masters at CSM but he started out, and made success, by himself. Again look at the Rodarte sisters; self taught. So really, who needs Art School?
