So you know I thought i'd show you guys a peek of my work. I heard recently that my Advanced Higher Art folio has been selected to be part of an exhibition showcasing "outstanding" art folios. This caught me hugely by surprise because most was finished last minute and I wasn't hugely happy with the outcome because I knew I could have made it much better. But a cranky art teacher and deadlines obvs was a good thing since the sqa obvs (again) liked it. Although I loved making this folio most design pieces would never be something I would sell because I'm not a big fan of them and I know now I should have designed them differently.
I chose the theme to be tropical birds and in retrospect I should have approached the theme in a completely different way. By choosing four very different species to focus on I gave myself too much freedom and too much inspiration/ideas to design with on this scale. I would, doing it again, restrict it to one kind of fabric or use only black and white colour - ie cutting out an important variable in order to a) make the collection fit together as a whole and b) so I can work much deeper in a more restricted area.
I realise this is a very negative post - but it's hard not to criticise your own work when you know what's amiss with it. Apologies.
